Gold Coast 2018 gold medallist Lee Ahye retains 100m title at NAAA championships

Commonwealth Gold medalist Michelle-Lee Ahye successfully defended her national 100m title at the 2018 NGC/Sagicor General-sponsored NAAA Open Championships on Saturday.

In cold wet conditions at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, Ahye cruised to the line in 11.14 to claim the event well clear of the rest of the field.

Up and coming star Khalifa St Fort finished strong to claim second place in 11.14.

Zakiyah Denoon, who recorded the fastest time in the preliminary round with 11.21, could not repeat the feat in the final but was third in 11.31. Veteran Semoy Hackett was fourth in 11.37.

Following the race Ahye, who has had an uneasy relationship with the media in recent months declined a post-race interview.

In April Ahye became the first woman from Trinidad and Tobago to win a Commonwealth gold.

In the men’s equivalent took gold and silver in 10.20 and 10.21 respectively.
