Former NCAA star Natoya Goule could not get nowhere close to eventual race winner Caster Semenya at the Paris Diamond League on Saturday, July 30.
The South African performances is the fastest time in the world in nearly 10 years and the fourth fastest in the event’s history.
Semenya, who dominated the event from the outset, turned down the option of having a pacemaker and in the end still punished the field with the winning time of 1:54.25. The new record time destroyed her previous best of 1:55.16 and the field where eight of the 11 finishers set either season or lifetime bests.
World Champion and Olympic silver medallist Francine Niyonsaba was a distant second place in 1:55.86, with the United States’ Ajee Wilson third in 1:57.11. Goule was fifth in 1:57.69. The mark erased the previous national best of Kenya Sinclair, 1:57.88, which had stood since 2006. The South African was pleased with her effort.
Meanwhile, Natoya Goule destroyed her previous personal best by more than a second at the Paris Diamond League.
